BANKSY X HEINZ
I wanted to remind ketchup fans of Heinz's place in the pantheon of great billboard ads by making them think that we commissioned the iconic Banksy (without mentioning his name, of course) 🍅.

sebastopolarts Does this make anyone else miss Mad Men??

anti_hereaux_ Very interesting perspective and placement. Well done.
iwwdev Are we supposed to color it in? We all know it’s McDonald’s , so we need to brand it for you? McDonald’s shouldn’t sue or anything. It’s literally “McDonald’s supplied hienz ketchup”

EXECUTION
It was important that I picked an image that suited my vision. After some consideration, I chose a stock image. Then, I mocked up a fake print advertisement for french fries. It wanted it to be innocuous-looking.
Technically, the billboard was a painting itself, so I maintained the impression of brick beneath the print advertisement.
Then, I overlayed the Heinz ketchup bottle. I played with perspectives and blend modes to create a stencil-like look. For the sake of authenticity, I hand-painted some splatters. Like most graffiti artists, Banksy uses stencils. But, with every piece, he employs a messy quality that makes the design look quite rushed.
My favourite part was painting the spray - that was the cherry on top. I imagined squeezing my own bottle of Heinz ketchup. The ketchup always comes out so strong, like the "jet" setting on a garden hose. I thought about the distinct sound it makes. At the end of the spray, I added a red blob of ketchup that balances out the image.
